Stromboli Ferry Guide (2026): Schedules from Naples vs Milazzo
How to compare hydrofoil schedules, handle Scirocco wind disruptions, and reach Stromboli with less stress.

Table of Contents
Stromboli is an island with no airport. Your only way in is by sea. This isolation is its blessing, but it means you must plan your arrival carefully.
1. Departure Points
You have two main hubs to reach the Aeolian Islands:
-
From Sicily (Milazzo): The main gateway. Hydrofoils run every hour in summer.
Bus from Catania Airport to Milazzo Port: ~2 hours. -
From Naples (Napoli):
1. Overnight Ferry (Siremar): Departs ~20:00, arrives ~06:00. Slow but romantic.
2. Fast Hydrofoil (SNAV): Summer only. Takes ~4.5 hours. Fast but bumpy.
2. Hydrofoil vs Ship
Liberty Lines (Hydrofoil): Fast, passenger only. You sit inside (airline style). Sensitive to waves.
Siremar / NGI (Ship): Slow, carries cars (residents only) and trucks. Very stable. Has open decks to enjoy the view.
3. The Scirocco Wind Risk
This is the most important paragraph in this guide.
Stromboli's port (Scari) is exposed to the South-East. If the Scirocco wind blows strong (>20 knots), hydrofoils cannot dock. Ships usually can.
4. Booking Strategy
In July and August, hydrofoils sell out days in advance. Do not show up at the port expecting to buy a ticket.
Book online via Liberty Lines or Traghetti Lines at least 2-3 weeks ahead for weekends.
